Members Report Harassment From US Customs
ADC
Michigan has recently received information from community members
who claim to have been treated harshly by US Customs agents at
Detroit Metro Airport, while being questioned about money in their
possession.According
to these individuals, they were stopped; pulled aside and
interrogated about how much money they were carrying with them. Many allege that when the money was returned to them, after
being counted and screened by the agents, some of it was missing.
In addition, the agents treated people badly by searching them
publicly and humiliating them in front of other passengers.ADC is very concerned with the details of these incidents
and their similarities to one another.ADC Michigan is in the processes of investigating the
matter further and calls for public assistance in sorting out
facts and obtaining an accurate count of these experiences. ADC
Michigan urges any community members who have had similar
experiences, or who know someone who has, to contact the ADC
Office at 313-581-1201 immediately. It is very important that we address this matter amicably
and report it to the proper authorities. “What we have learned
so far is very alarming and merits serious attention,” states
ADC Michigan Director Imad Hamad.“However, we ask that no one rush to judgment before
verifying all of the facts surrounding these allegations. We will
make every effort to monitor this situation closely.”
